Sustainability

Wild Cherry School is a Resource Smart School, which means we are dedicated to embedding sustainability in everything we do.

Here are some of the actions we have already taken to be more sustainable.

Energy

– Received $10,000 energy grant, with it:
– Installed ceiling fans on all high ceilings
– Installed laser light to increase natural lighting and warmth
– Developed signage to promote the initiative ‘Please Switch Off When Not in Use’
– We continue to minimise energy use – lights off, close doors
– We monitor electricity use

Water

– We wash dishes by hand rather than using a dishwasher
– We only water veggie garden beds, fruit trees and young plants and with hand held hose or watering cans
– We installed dual flush toilets

Waste

– We compost our food scraps
– We encourage waste free lunches and no processed or packaged foods
– We try not to use photocopy sheets in classroom and avoid plastics where possible
– All our waste is sorted, into general waste and recyclables
– We reuse 1 sided paper and copy double sided
– We use 100% recycled paper and recycled office supplies where possible
– We send out our correspondence where possible via email
– Our marketing collateral is printed by Black Rainbow Printing on 100% post-consumer recycled paper using vegetable inks and 100% solar power
