Wild Cherry School is a Resource Smart School, which means we are dedicated to embedding sustainability in everything we do.

These are some of the actions we have already taken to be more sustainable.


Energy (Module completed in 2015)

- $10,000 energy grant
- Installed ceiling fans as high ceilings
- Installed laser light to increase natural lighting and warmth
- Developed signage to promote the initiative 'Please Switch Off When Not in Use'
- Minimise energy use - lights off, close doors
- Monitor electricity use
- Surveyed parents to gauge their preferred method of communication for newsletters.




- Wash dishes by hand rather than using a dishwasher
- Only water veggie gardens and fruit trees (rest is established)
- Dual flush toilets



- Our marketing collateral is printed by Black Rainbow Printing on 100% post-consumer recycled paper using vegetable inks and 100% solar power.
- Food scraps composted in school compost bin, waste free lunches 2 days a week with no processed or packaged foods.
- No photocopy sheets in classroom, only use workbooks, no plastics - durable items used.
- Recycle all paper, reuse 1 sided paper, double sided copying, 100% recycled paper, 100% recycled files, recycle toners, recycle any office supplies (e.g. manila folders), send out most correespondence (like newsletters) via email.
